Lagos State commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Cecilia Dada, has called for increased support, collaboration, and inclusion of women in surveying, highlighting their vital role in sustainable development and technological innovation.

Dada addressed participants as the special guest at the Women-in-Surveying Biennial Congress, held in Lagos.

The congress, “Revolutionising Surveying: Empowering Sustainable Development through Remote Collaboration and Community Engagement,” brought together professionals and stakeholders in the geospatial industry.

In her keynote address, the commissioner, who was represented at the event by the Director of Women Affairs, Olufunke Shyllon, praised the Women-In-Surveying Network for its consistent efforts in empowering women, promoting innovation, and fostering inclusive community engagement through the profession.

“I commend the leadership and members of this unique body of professionals for their steadfast commitment to redefining the landscape of surveying in Nigeria, particularly through the empowerment of women and meaningful community involvement,” she said.

Dada emphasised the critical role that women surveyors play in addressing significant development challenges, such as land administration, climate adaptation, housing, and urban planning, especially in the context of a rapidly digitalising global economy.

“Women in surveying are not just charting landscapes; they are charting new destinies for young girls and women in STEM careers across Lagos and beyond,” she stated.

In her acceptance speech, the new Women In Surveying (WIS) coordinator, Lagos State, Mrs. Susan Ogunjobi, said, ‘’The moment is not just about title or position-it’s about purpose.

It’s about strengthening the presence and voice of women in our profession. It’s about equity, empowerment, and excellence.

And it’s about continuing to shape a future where every woman surveyor, from student to seasoned professional, feels seen, supported, and set up for success.”

Earlier, the outgoing coordinator of WIS Lagos, Mrs. Joseph V. Olajumoke, issued a compelling call to action, urging women in the surveying profession to embrace innovation, strengthen strategic partnerships, and deepen community involvement to revolutionise the field.
