“The Borno State Police Command under the leadership of CP Naziru Abdulmajid has recorded another significant breakthrough in its relentless fight against crime and criminality with the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of three stolen vehicles,” Daso said.

He explained that the Command received a distress call on July 8, 2025, at about 5pm, reporting the theft of a Mercedes Benz C180, grey colour at the Innovative Area, Pompomari bypass, Maiduguri.

The Commissioner of Police, on receipt of the distress call, directed police personnel to intensify efforts in recovering the vehicle.

The PPRO said while on a routine patrol on Thursday, July 10, 2025, the Command’s Crack Squad intercepted the stolen vehicle at Bolori area, Maiduguri, from a 34-year-old Umar Muhammed.

“During investigation, the suspect confessed that the vehicle was handed to him by his 18-year-old accomplice identified as Abubakar Sadiq, who stole it from where it was parked.

ASP Daso said further investigation led to a raid on the suspect’s residence at Bolori, where two additional Mercedes Benz C180 vehicles were recovered with five different vehicle plate numbers.

The state police spokesman added that the suspects admitted to specialising in stealing vehicles and dismantling them into parts before selling them.

ASP Daso further revealed that both suspects were in police custody where the case was being investigated.

The police charged owners of the vehicles to report to the Crack Squad Unit of Borno State Police Command with valid proof of ownership and documents for verification and possible reclaim.

Daso assured that the Borno State Police Command remained steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents, adding that it will continue to intensify efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
