FAAN Reopens Port Harcourt Airport Runway For Flight Operations After Air Peace Mishap

FAAN Reopens Port Harcourt Airport Runway

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that Port Harcourt Airport airspace has been reopened for flight operations after closure following an Air Peace runway mishap.

Several flights of local airlines were disrupted on Sunday after an Air Peace Airlines flight, P47190, skidded off the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omegwa, Rivers.

The aircraft with 127 passengers skidded off the runway after landing on Sunday at the airport.

FAAN, in a statement, however said the airspace had been reopened and the landing distance is now 2,700 meters instead of the stipulated 3,000 meters.

The agency had urged passengers to expect flight delays on Sunday.

The director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, FAAN, Obiageli Orah, said the evacuation of the 127 passengers was completed safely with no casualties.

“Airpeace flight P47190, registration number 5N-BQQ, departed from Lagos (LOS) and landed at Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) at approximately 0745 hours. The aircraft overshot runway 03 upon landing.

“We are relieved to report that there were no casualties. Evacuation of the 127 passengers has been completed safely with no casualties. In the interim, please plan for flight delays for any departing flights to Port Harcourt.

“Further details will be provided as they become available. FAAN remains committed to the safety and security of the passengers,” Orah stated.

Also explaining the incident, the airlines said the aircraft experienced an excursion and skidded off the Port Harcourt airport runway.

According to the spokesman of Air Peace, Osifo-whiskey Efe, the aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage.

According to him, all passengers disembarked safely and calmly, and no injuries were reported.

“Air Peace confirms that Flight P47190, operating from Lagos to Port Harcourt this morning, had a runway excursion after landing safely at the Port Harcourt International Airport.

“The aircraft veered slightly off the runway without any damage. All passengers disembarked safely and calmly, and no injuries were reported.”

“We reassure the flying public of our unflinching commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in all our operations,” Osifo-whiskey stated.
