The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

In an official statement released by its National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, IPAC described Buhari as a “great patriot, elder statesman and a distinguished army general” whose life was marked by dedication to national service and democratic ideals.

Buhari, who first led Nigeria as a military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985, later returned to power as a democratically elected president, serving two terms from 2015 to 2023. The council noted that his eventual electoral success after three unsuccessful bids in 2003, 2007, and 2011 stood as a symbol of resilience and unwavering belief in democracy.

“A man of integrity, Buhari championed the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) and confronted corruption head-on,” IPAC stated, adding that his leadership style and legacy would continue to serve as an inspiration to current and future leaders striving for national development.

IPAC extended its condolences to Buhari’s family, the people and government of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large, praying for strength and fortitude to bear what it described as an “irreparable loss.”

The statement concluded with prayers for divine mercy and eternal rest: “May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus.”
