The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) and the Social Democratic Party have expressed deep sadness over former President Muhammadu Buhari’s death.

The national secretary of CUPP, Chief Peter Ameh, released a statement to newsmen yesterday in Abuja acknowledging Buhari’s service to Nigeria and the challenges he faced during his time in leadership.

“The news of Buhari’s death has left a deep impact on the nation, prompting reflection on his time in office and the challenges faced by leaders in serving the people. As Nigeria mourns the loss of a former President, hopes remain high for a future dedicated to improving the lives of its citizens and upholding the values of leadership.”

Buhari, who served as military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later as a two-term president from 2015 to 2023, leaves behind a legacy in Nigeria’s history of leadership.

Despite being political opponents, CUPP recognised the importance of reflecting on his tenure and urged current leaders to prioritise the needs of Nigerian citizens, particularly in providing quality healthcare facilities,” he said.

Also, the acting national chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, has expressed great shock following former president Muhammadu Buhari’s passing.

In a statement released to newsmen yesterday in Abuja, Abubakar expressed shock and heartfelt condolences to Her Excellency, Hajia Aishat Buhari, and the immediate family.

“President Buhari will be remembered as a man who epitomised puritanical values in both his public and private life. His stoic self-discipline, corruption-free orientation, and admirable piety left a lasting impact on the nation.”

“Having served as a military Head of State and later as a civilian president, President Buhari made significant contributions to national development and left behind a legacy of discipline and noble values,” he said.

He further said that the party acknowledged his cult-like followership and courage of convictions, noting that his memory will continue to serve as a moral compass for the nation’s quest for good governance and sustainable development.

He said, “The party prays for the repose of President Buhari’s soul and extends heartfelt condolences to the family.”
