There was palpable tension in Rujau local government area of Niger state as suspected bandits have surrounded the area trying to mop up rustled cattle and shooting randomly at vulnerable Residents.
An eyewitness account revealed that the suspected Bandits, in large numbers, invaded the communities between Mariga and Rijau local government areas, riding on 200 motorcycles, with 3 on each of the cycles.

The account also revealed that the Bandits were wielding AK-47s and other dangerous weapons, moving from one community to another to gather cattle.

It was gathered that the suspected bandits came from Zamfara state to carry out the hours-long operation.

At the time of the attacks, the eyewitness revealed that there were no security operatives in the entire area, except for a few local vigilantes who were providing little cover for the helpless villagers.

The eyewitness account was not clear on the number of casualties, but it revealed that the bandits were shooting randomly, and the bullets hit dozens of villagers who were scampering for safety.
