FG, NNPC Urged Not To Terminate Pipeline Protection Contract

Movement for the Survival of the Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta (MOSIEND) has called on federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to ignore the growing  calls for the cancellation of pipeline contract awarded to PINL describing them as divisive demand.

Rather, the group urged dialogue and peaceful resolution of the concerns raised over the contract and “focus on the smooth and effective delivery of the pipeline repair project”.

The Ijaw Peoples Development Initiative (IPDI) had demanded the cancellation of the contract to awarded to PINL.

Also, the chairman, Renaissance for Good Governance (IRGG), Chief Samuel Ambakederemo and secretary, Dr. Justice Ingowari, in a separate statement, condemned what it described “frivolous call for the termination of pipeline contract awarded PINL.”

They said Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited’s had contributed immensely to the country’s economy adding that their intervention in the fight against pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft in the Eastern Corridor had led to drastic increase in crude oil production and the associated economic, social and environmental benefits to the country.

The president of MOSIEND. Dr. Kennedy Tonjo West, in a statement charged PINL to strengthen its connections with host communities and ensure that job opportunities, especially for Ijaw youths, are prioritised.
