‎The member representing the Bende North constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, Nnamdi Ibekwe, has advocated for the state’s observance of the annual Heroes Remembrance Day.

‎Ibekwe made the call yesterday while speaking to LEADERSHIP after moving a motion for the observance during plenary on the floor of the House in Umuahia, the state capital.

The lawmaker said the day will mark the acts of valor of the great ones and inculcate such facts and heritage into the educational curriculum to deepen understanding, especially among youths.

‎He urged the government to erect statues and monuments of prominent leaders and personalities from the state at strategic locations and to develop the various tourist sites.

‎Ibekwe noted that the sites should be marketed and developed as in South Africa, Israel, Germany, France, the UK, India, and the US, “which earn enormous funds from the sector annually.”
