The Phillips Consulting (pcl.), one of Nigeria’s subnational assessment firms, has ranked Gombe State 1st in the country for road infrastructure and public hospital service delivery.

The state also topped the sanitation and Ease of Doing Business index, marking a significant milestone in its commitment to accessible healthcare, transport development, and investor-friendly policies.
In a statement issued by Isma’il Uba Misilli, the DG Press Affairs, Gombe State, on Thursday, the firm ranked the state 7th in the 2025 State Performance Index (SPI), outperforming 30 other states.

In addition, Gombe clinched 2nd place in both Security of Lives and Property and Environmental Cleanliness, showcasing ongoing efforts to ensure peace, stability, and sustainability.

The state also earned 3rd place for Affordability of Public Healthcare, largely attributed to the success of the GoHealth insurance initiative, which has expanded access to medical care for vulnerable populations.

Other notable achievements include 5th place rankings in Public Transport Accessibility and Affordability of Education, further highlighting the state’s inclusive development agenda.

Phillips Consulting evaluates all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory across critical sectors, including governance, social development, infrastructure, and economic management.

The report attributed the state’s progress to Governor Yahaya’s political will, sustained reforms, and people-centred governance.

“Gombe is positioned to become Nigeria’s most surprising success story in the coming decade,” the report predicted.

The firm added that the state is evolving into a regional trade hub, driven by sustained peace, expanding infrastructure, and strong support for small and medium enterprises, which are reducing dependence on federal allocations.

It also highlighted the state’s growing potential in agriculture, trade, and its budding industrial base, crediting targeted investments and stable governance for creating an enabling environment for economic growth.
