The much-anticipated 2025 Bauchi Polo Tournament will commence today with 22 elite teams from Northern Nigeria competing for glory.
This week-long polo extravaganza will end on Saturday, showcasing top-class polo action across three major categories: the Tafawa Balewa Cup, the Emir of Bauchi Cup, and the Governor’s Cup.
According to Shamsudeen Marafa, spokesperson for the Bauchi Polo Club, Dokaji Farms and Jos Malcomines are among the frontrunners for the Governor’s Cup.
Although there has been a slight decrease in participation compared to last year’s roster of over 30 teams, Marafa stated that strong contingents from Abuja, Jos, Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, and Yola are expected to take part.
He noted that the Governor’s Cup, which boasts the tournament’s highest prize, is set to feature a fierce showdown between polo powerhouses Dokaji Farms and Jos Malcomines.
“We’ve made all the necessary arrangements to ensure a smooth competition. Teams will benefit from a conducive environment with adequate accommodation and facilities,” Marafa assured.
Our correspondent reports that as the turf is prepared and mallets are readied, polo fans can look forward to an exciting week of thunderous gallops, strategic strikes, and regal sportsmanship in the heart of Bauchi.
