Nigeria’s men’s 4×100m relay team has been eliminated from the automatic qualification zone for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan. The setback followed Jamaica’s impressive victory with a time of 37.80 seconds at the London Diamond League on Saturday.

The Jamaican quartet, consisting of Rohan Watson, Oblique Seville, Kadrian Goldson, and Kishane Thompson, triumphed at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford, finishing ahead of Great Britain (38.08 seconds) and the Netherlands (38.17 seconds).

Jamaica’s winning time elevated them to 15th place in the global rankings, moving Nigeria, previously in 16th position, into the danger zone with a time of 38.20 seconds, which they recorded at the Paris 2024 Olympics last year.

Only the top 16 teams qualify for the men’s 4×100m relay at the World Championships in Tokyo this September. The Nigerian relay team will need to seek qualification elsewhere in an effort to improve their time and surpass other countries currently ranked 16th. Nigeria has achieved this previously.
