Former director-general of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon CID Maduabum has resigned from the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Similarly, the PDP financial secretary in Kaduna State, Aliyu’ Bello, also resigned his membership of PDP and joined the ADC.

PDP’s woes continued in Kogi State over the weekend as one of its chieftains, Chief Adegboyega Kolade, also resigned his membership, citing destructive tendencies exhibited by the party’s leadership at the national and state levels. But he didn’t disclose his next destination.

The former Governors forum director general, Maduabum, in a statement on Sunday in Abuja, said the PDP, which he served with pride, has been hijacked by self-serving, unscrupulous elements who are more interested in personal power grabs than in party discipline, internal democracy, or national interest.

PDP, according to the two-term member of the House of Representatives, is now a shadow of its former self, having descended into chaos, internal betrayal, and systematic destruction by “diverse forces who have no regard for the principles upon which the party was founded.”

“I can no longer, in good conscience, remain in a house that has been stripped of its moral compass and overrun by opportunists” he declared.

While announcing his decamping to the ADC, Maduabum, a lawyer by profession, stated that the party (ADC) now stands as the only credible democratic alternative for Nigeria.

He added, “In light of this, I am proud to announce that I am joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) — a party that now stands as the only credible democratic alternative for Nigeria.

“The ADC is emerging as a beacon of hope for good governance, integrity, accountability, and inclusive politics,” he said.

Kaduna PDP Fin Sec, Bello, Resigns

Bello had resigned as financial secretary of PDP before dumping the party.

Bello, a long-serving party official in the state, announced his resignations as financial scribe and party member, in separate letters both dated July 16, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Kaduna State, and his Tudun Nupawa Ward chairman respectively.

In his resignation letter from the PDP, Bello said, “My decision to resign is based on personal grounds more than anything else.”

He however confirmed to LEADERSHIP that he was joining the adopted coalition party, African Democratic Congress (ADC) as his next political destination ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Bello’s resignation comes just days after his political benefactor, Atiku Abubakar, also left the former ruling party.

Bello however confirmed that all the ward executives of the PDP are also leaving with him to the ADC.

The PDP in Kaduna is yet to issue any official response to the resignation.

In Kogi, the PDP chieftain, Chief Adegboyega Kolade, blamed destructive tendencies exhibited by the party’s leadership at the national and state levels for his exit from the party.

Kolade tendered his resignation in a letter dated July 18, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman in Ward 06, Mopamuro LGA, Kogi State, a copy of which was made available to journalists on Sunday in Lokoja.

His resignation followed recent defections of PDP members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, particularly from the Western axis.

In the letter, Kolade, a founding PDP member, expressed his disappointment with the party’s leadership, particularly naming the acting chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Senator Natasha Akpoti, and other party officials as responsible for the party’s current state of disorganisation.

The former PDP chieftain appreciated the party for the opportunities offered him during his tenure but lamented that the party’s current leadership has made it toothless and disorganised.

A PDP member in Kogi west, told our correspondent, in confidence, that Kolade’s resignation is a blow to the PDP in the state, and his departure is likely to further weaken the party’s already fragile structure.

The PDP in the state was yet to react to Kolade’s resignation.
