The Etsu of Kwali, Luka Ayedo Nizassan, has underscored the vital role of sports in curbing youth restiveness and crime, calling it a powerful tool for conflict resolution.
Nizassan made this known yesterday at the Amijapp Football Championship Cup 2025 finals in the Kwali area council.
“Sports, especially football, serve as a stabiliser in our communities. They engage our youth, divert their energy positively, and reduce crime. Competitions like this foster unity and peace,” he said.
The tournament, sponsored by Engr. Pius Aminu, managing director of Amijapp Nigeria Limited, featured 11 teams across Kwali’s 10 wards.
Aminu described football as “a unifying force and a thriving global enterprise.”
He urged more investment in sports, saying, “Football is not just a game; it’s a multi-billion-dollar industry that can drive youth development and economic growth.”
Speaker of the Kwali legislative arm and APC chairmanship aspirant, Hon. Nuhu Daniel Kwali, echoed the sentiment, noting, “When youth are engaged in sports, they stay away from crime.
Initiatives like this are crucial for a safer society.”
The championship climaxed with Academy Stars FC defeating Ortega Academy FC 1-0, while Kolo FC secured third place.
An elated Atiaro Stephen, captain of Academy Stars, said, “This victory is for our community. Football gives us hope and purpose.”
Trophies, medals, and consolation prizes were awarded to all participants, marking a successful end to the tournament.
