Police Arrest Man For Alleged Murder Of Driver In Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Mr. Adeshina Gilbert, for alleged murder of a commercial driver in Obudu local government area of the state.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in Calabar, Cross River State capital, while speaking with LEADERSHIP.

Ugbo stated that the suspect who is a resident of Abonkib community, Obudu Urban in Obudu local government of Cross River is presently in police custody.

The PPRO stressed that that the arrest followed the directive by the Cross River Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid Afegba, mandating that the suspect be fish out and brought to book.

The PPRO in a statement sighted by LEADERSHIP confirmed the tragic brutal murder of the victim identified as Agage Ternenge, on Friday, July 18, 2025.

The Police statement dated July 21, 2025 disclosed that the killing followed “a deputed land between Vandeikya in Benue State and Obudu local government area of Cross River State.

“The victim, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya local government area, Benue State, was reportedly attacked and stoned to death while delivering a waybill to an individual in Obudu.

“A disturbing video of the incident, now circulating on social media, shows the inhumane assault carried out by a group of hoodlums,” the PPRO explained in the statement.

Earlier, the State Commissioner of Police, who condemned the act, described the it as barbaric, gross violation of fundamental human rights and dignity of person, stressing that police would go extra miles to apprehend other suspects who still on the run.
