Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has commended Nasarawa State government on the state’s judgement against a child rapist.

Recently, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashir-Aliyu, sentenced Ahmadu Yaro, who was convicted of raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi Village, to 21 years imprisonment.

Ibrahim said the judgement was not only a powerful statement that impunity would no longer be tolerated in the state but also an affirmation of the justice system’s role in protecting society’s most vulnerable members.

The minister further deployed the opportunity to urge all states to begin the implementation of the Child Rights Act which has been domesticated across the 36 states of the country; and called on states to toe the line of Nasarawa State to ensure that “justice will be visible, survivor-focused and unrelenting”.

“Let this ruling serve as a turning point. A signal to all offenders that Nigeria will no longer shield those who violate her children,” the minister said.
