NGO Advocates Accessible Quality Education For Children

A Non Governmental Organization,Women Of Glory(WOG), has called on the three tiers of government to make quality education accessible to Nigerian Children,especially in the rural areas.

Mary-Jane Madu,Head of Helping Hand Unit, Women Of Glory made the call in Abuja yesterday,during the Educate a Child Project at LEA Primary School,Jahi.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP she said, “As mother’s we know what it means when your children don’t have access to basic things like education, every child should have access to quality education and having a condusive environment is very important to achieve that.We looked at the location of LEA Primary school Jahi,and we decided to come here to do what we can to enable the children have access to education”.

She added that the NGO is not impressed with the standard of public schools in Nigeria, and urged the government at all levels to invest in public schools especially in the provision of infrastructure and other basic amenities.

Also speaking at the event Cindy Okoye, President, Women Of Glory, Abuja Chapter,said the foundation adopts a school under the Educate a Child Project,and pays fees for a year,for children who cannot afford to pay.

“We support children to have an education,so every year we come to LEA Primary school Jahi,to pay fees of children.We give them uniforms, sports wears and books.We made a promise two years ago to help them furnish the nursery and kindergarten class,and we came here to fulfill that promise”.

On her part Evangeline Eberechuckwu, Head Teacher,LEA Primary school Jahi, expressed her gratitude to the Women of Glory foundation for their kind gesture and intervention for the school,and also called on the government to provide the needed infrastructure and security for the school to protect it from criminals and vandals,who gain access to the school, due to the lack of a perimeter fence around the school.

At the event Women of Glory paid levies for 50 pupils of the school and also donated school uniforms, sports wear,school bags and various food items.
