About 10 communities in the Zaki local government area of Bauchi State have returned to their settlements after a ravaging flood that displaced them a few weeks ago.
The residents of the communities said they returned to their destroyed shelters amid a lack of food and other basic amenities. The flood also swept away their livestock.
District head of Dudduru, Jauro Musa said the residents of his community are in dire condition and they can’t afford food, medicine as well as mosquito nets.
“We came back to nothing. Everything including water, animals, food and furniture is gone,” he said. Musa also lamented that they are yet to receive any support from the government.
Meanwhile, the Bauchi State government through the director of the National Emergency Management Agency, Bala Yakubu Lame, confirmed that it is aware of the situation.
Lame affirmed that the government has not forgotten its subjects, adding that there are plans to support them and relief materials would soon reach the affected population.
