The Tinubu National Solidarity Movement has criticised the emerging opposition coalition, accusing its key actors of being power-hungry politicians bent on reclaiming influence they squandered over two decades of misrule.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by its national president Mohammed Sani Akwashiki, the organisation described the coalition as a desperate alliance of political actors from Nigeria’s recent past.

“After being out of power for just under two years, they are now conspiring to sabotage the current administration through blackmail and false narratives,” he lamented.

According to the statement, the coalition’s leaders are the same individuals who held power for over twenty years and left behind a legacy of corruption, division, and economic hardship.

The group claimed these political figures have nothing new to offer and are only motivated by self-interest and the desire to regain access to national resources. Akwashiki accused them of masquerading as saviours of the nation while refusing to present any credible or forward-looking policies to the Nigerian people.

He noted that their desperation stems from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, which he said has begun dismantling the entrenched structures that allowed these individuals to manipulate and exploit the system.

The Tinubu National Solidarity Movement painted a picture of a nation on the path to transformation, emphasising that the current administration is charting a new course anchored in development, equity, and accountability.

The statement described President Tinubu as a visionary and decisive leader who embodies the type of intentional leadership Nigeria needs at this critical juncture. Comparing him to the biblical Joshua, Akwashiki claimed that the President has led Nigerians through a difficult transition, such as the removal of fuel subsidies, which the group described as a necessary sacrifice for long-term gain.

He insisted the nation is now better positioned to confront its challenges head-on, guided by the president’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“The President, through the Renewed Hope Agenda, has introduced policies like the Nigeria First initiative, the student loans scheme, paying off outstanding salaries and welfare packages of lecturers owed over the years, thereby stabilising our tertiary institutions, the livestock initiative, mechanisation of agriculture, and massive infrastructural development.

“The new tax reform bill was signed into law. New reform policies have a gestation period. The opposition will not tell Nigerians the great impact these policies are having in reshaping our country, Nigeria.”

Akwashiki scores Tinubu’s leadership style as rooted in proven governance experience. He cites his time as governor of Lagos State, which he said laid the foundation for what has become one of Africa’s most functional subnational economies.

He stressed that the reforms currently underway in the country are not cosmetic but structural and strategic, and while they may come with short-term pain, they are designed to deliver long-term prosperity. He warned that the opposition would not speak of the benefits of these changes because doing so would weaken their misinformation campaign.

The statement dismissed the coalition’s credibility, linked to members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), claiming that the group is already torn apart by internal squabbles and ambition-driven rivalries.

He urged Nigerians not to be deceived by individuals he described as political desperadoes driven more by personal ambition than national interest.
