The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, has emerged as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Yilwatda was announced chairman during the 14th meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held on Thursday at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

His emergence comes following the resignation of the former chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who stepped down last month citing health-related concerns.

Yilwatda’s appointment was ratified by the NEC in what party insiders described as a “consensus-driven decision” aimed at uniting the party ahead of key political activities, including off-cycle governorship elections in Kogi, Edo, and Ondo states.

A former governorship candidate in Plateau State, Yilwatda is widely regarded within party circles as a loyal party man with a technocratic background and a grassroots appeal—credentials that many say contributed to his emergence as consensus candidate.

The Thursday’s NEC meeting was presided over by President Bola Tinubu and attended by key stakeholders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, APC governors, former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
