In a bid to ensure a smooth and timely distribution of palliatives across Zamfara State, the special adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Iliyasu Buhari Maijega, has applauded Governor Dauda Lawal for his effective leadership style.

Maijega also called on the state government to make justice its watchword in the distribution process, so that the palliatives reach the vulnerable people across the state.

Maijega made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists in Abuja yesterday.

Maijega emphasised that whenever the government plans to distribute items, such as palliatives, to the people, it must ensure that each of the ten wards receives the specified items equally and fairly, he said.

He said the same transparent process used in distributing fertilisers and cash support should also be applied to other matters, including awarding government contracts.

He noted that committees made up of respected individuals from each local government area are tasked with the responsibility of selecting deserving beneficiaries, without bias or favouritism.

He added that only Gusau, the state capital, has each word highlighted, highlighting this as the only notable difference in the distribution framework.

Maijega pointed out that Zamfara State does not generate enough internal revenue. For this reason, any assistance—whether in cash or kind—is carefully utilised to support citizens in one way or another, especially since the state’s budgetary allocation is not sufficient to cover all developmental needs.

The ongoing distribution of palliatives is intended to alleviate residents’ hardships, reduce poverty at the grassroots level, and support those most affected by economic challenges.

The state government has reiterated that the palliatives are meant for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation, and has urged the distribution committee to ensure fairness and transparency.
