Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have apprehended an armed robbery suspect accused of membership of a criminal syndicate specialising in kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the State.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Akwa Ibom Command, DSP Timfon John, who briefed Journalists on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare, explained that the feat was recorded by the Command’s Anti-Crime Squad on routine late surveillance of known criminal hideouts.
DSP John disclosed that the arrest led to the recovery of some dangerous weapons and Police paraphernalia, during the midnight patrol operation.
She named the suspect as one Iniobong Ezekiel Sunday, a resident of Adiasim Ikot Eko village in Ini local government area who was apprehended at about 12:05am, following an intelligence-led surveillance and anti-crime patrol.
John revealed that “a thorough search of the suspect’s bag yielded alarming items, including one locally fabricated pistol, one blue police uniform bearing the name tag; “EKPENYONG ATTE” and Force Number 062763, with the rank of Sergeant.”
Other incriminating items found on the suspect include one black police uniform, Police photographs, a pair of Police badge, an Inspector rank lanyard, a bicycle and credentials belonging to one Ukong Helena Tom.
“The suspect is currently undergoing detailed profiling as part of ongoing investigations into his activities and the origin of the recovered items.
“The swift and professional conduct of the patrol team underscores our unwavering commitment to public safety and the eradication of criminal elements from our communities,” the PPRO explained.
She urged members of the civil society to be in the vanguard for peace and egalitarian society by working together with security agencies to rid the State of criminal elements.
