Kano State governor, Alhaji Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the alleged involvement of the state commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in the controversial bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Dan-Wawu.

The directive follows widespread public outrage after reports emerged that the commissioner’s name appeared in official documents facilitating the suspect’s release.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, to address the matter, the governor has set up a seven-member special investigative committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions.

He noted that the committee would be chaired by Barrister Aminu Hussain, his special adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters.

Other members include Barr Hamza Haladu, Barr Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, Maj. Gen. Sani Muhammad (rtd), Comrade Kabiru Dakata and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota (secretary).

While announcing the formation of the committee, Governor Yusuf expressed concern over the alleged misconduct, reaffirming his administration’s commitment in the fight against drug abuse and any form of social vices in the state.

LEADERSHIP Sunday reports that Kano State Commissioner for Transport initially stood as surety to fulfill the bail conditions set by the court for the suspect.

However, due to mounting public outrage, Namadi withdrew as the suspect’s surety, citing private and image issues as reasons for his withdrawal.

The commissioner further stated that his decision to stand for the suspect as a surety was not with any sinister intention.
