WAFCON: ‘You’ve Made Us Proud’, Jonathan Celebrates Super Falcons

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons on their dramatic 3-2 victory over hosts Morocco to clinch a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title.

Jonathan hailed team’s achievement as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the nation.

In a statement shared on his official X handle on Sunday, former President Jonathan commended the team for their fighting spirit and resilience after coming from two goals down to secure the trophy, describing their performance as a testament to Nigeria’s limitless potential.

“Congratulations @NGSuper_Falcons on winning the #TotalEnergiesWAFCON2024 for a record 10th time (#MissionX),” he wrote. “Your hard work and team spirit saw you fight back from two goals down to defeat the host Moroccan team by a margin of 3-2.”

Jonathan said the Falcons’ win was not only a sporting triumph but also a lesson of hope for Nigeria, noting that it showcased what the country could achieve when united.

 

“Your victory is a lesson of hope. One that highlights our possibilities as a nation; that with unity, faith and perseverance, we can achieve our national aspirations no matter how daunting the challenges we face,” he stated.

 

The former president also praised the team for achieving #MissionX, marking the first time a nation has lifted the trophy ten times on the African continent.

 

“Thank you for making us proud. Congratulations on your achievement of #MissionX, the first in our continent’s history,” Jonathan concluded.
