The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has summoned the management of Enyimba International FC of Aba to explain the alleged mistreatment of their player, Brown Ideye.
It is recalled that former Super Eagles winger and Enyimba player Ideye, in a statement posted on his social media, accused the two-time African champions of owing him and other players outstanding match bonuses from last season.
Speaking to journalists yesterday on the sidelines of the NPFL Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja, NPFL chairman Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye stated that the Aba-based club has been called to appear before the league to explain the situation.
“Brown Ideye is a very good friend of mine, and I would not be pleased if he is being treated poorly. Ideye is a source of pride for us in the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“Upon seeing that statement, I contacted Enyimba’s coordinator, Ifeanyi, and asked how this could happen. He provided their side of the story, and I informed him that since Brown complained in the public domain, they should also publish their account of the situation for everyone to see. I told him that the excuses being given had no merit. Therefore, they need to come to us after this AGM. We will be meeting with Enyimba’s management on Thursday to ask final questions,” Elegbeleye said.
