Sokoto State government has released 30 additional mass transit buses to the Ministry of Transportation and rolled out a new e-ticketing system designed to ease access and promote accountability.

The handing over of the buses was performed by the deputy governor, Alhaji Idris Muhammed Gobir, who presented the keys to the commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Bala Kokani.

Gobir said the new buses, part of a fleet earlier procured by the government, were withheld pending the completion of the state’s digital ticketing platform.

“With the e-ticketing system now fully operational, passengers can conveniently book and pay for their trips online, removing bottlenecks and long queues at terminals,” he said.

The deputy governor emphasised that the initiative was part of efforts to ease the transportation burden on citizens, especially in the face of economic challenges stemming from the removal of fuel subsidies.

“The e-ticketing system will also ensure transparency and accountability in the day-to-day operations of the mass transit service, and guarantee value for money,” he added.

Hon. Bala Kokani expressed appreciation to Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his continued investment in the transport sector, describing the development as a milestone in the administration’s efforts to modernise public mobility.

“I want to assure His Excellency that we will treat these vehicles like personal property and maintain them in the best condition,” Kokani said.

Since assuming office, Governor Ahmed Aliyu has procured a total of 70 mass transit vehicles, including 50 buses and 20 Toyota Camrys, for both inter-state and intra-city services.
