A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, has declared that the African Democratic Party (ADC) adopted by the opposition coalition will die in three months.

Sheriff, a former governor of Borno state, made this declaration yesterdayon Channels Television’s “Politics Today.”

He said the party should be given only three months, and it would die because almost all the arrowheads in the party are eyeing the presidency.

The then chairman of the board of trustees of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party(ANPP), one of the legacy parties that merged to form the APC in 2013, said ADC lacked the structures to survive as it currently controls no state.

Sheriff also dismissed rumours that he has joined or is planning to join the ADC, saying other prominent northern politicians, including former governors of Zamfara and Sokoto states, Abdulraziz Yari and Aliyu Wamakko, were being mentioned to give the opposition party some credibility.

The former APC national chairmanship aspirant also said he was committed to ensuring President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, adding that it was only right for power to be retained in the south at the 2027 polls.

He said, “ADC does not exist. I said the party does not exist. When we came to form the APC, there were about 15 state governments.

Today, we(APC)have 73 senators in the National Assembly, a clear majority in the House of Representatives, and more than 17 states.

“This ADC that you are talking about, I can tell you for free, give them three months. It will die down because all of them are presidential material. And only one person is going to be a presidential candidate. There are about three or so that are looking for a president.

“Let’s see, Atiku has been the vice president of Nigeria. So, for him, president or nothing. Peter Obi’s ambition is to become president. For your information, the information available to me is that at any moment from now, Peter Obi will go back to PDP and run as a presidential candidate under PDP. So that leaves former vice president Atiku and Amaechi.

“Tell me, which state do they control? I want to ask you, tell me the heavyweights. Which state?”

Sheriff said he has no regrets about making Senator Kashim Shettima governor of Borno state, who is now the Vice President. He said only President Tinubu made the decision, and it is still up to him to retain Shettima as his running mate.

“The president has the exclusive right to choose who becomes his running mate any day, any time. Because the way he picked him (Shettima) as his running mate, if he wants to pick him again, he will pick him.

“It’s not for people to tell the president what he wants to do or what he will do or what he should not do,” he said, dismissing threats by some persons claiming to be members of the ANPP to back out of APC if Shettima is dropped as Tinubu’s running mate in 2027.

On how to permanently stop the Boko Haram insurgency in the country, Shettima said, “ What should be done is that we have to have a relationship, a proper relationship with Cameroon, Chad, and Nigeria.
