Leaders and stakeholders of the  Social Democratic Party (SDP) met in Abuja yesterday over the crisis rocking the opposition party.

SDP has been embroiled in turmoil. While an allegation of financial fraud led to the suspension of the national chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam and two others, the ban of former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, from the party for 30 years over his membership status, reignited the party crisis in state.

However, in a bid to address these issues, the party held a stakeholders meeting at its headquarters in Wuse 2, Abuja.

But El-Rufai and some other leaders were notably absent from the meeting.

However, while addressing the stakeholders, the acting national chairman, Prof. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, acknowledged the party was facing challenging times.

He however said the challenges present an opportunity for growth and reflection on the party’s affairs, priorities, and objectives.

Abubakar assured the stakeholders that the party’s leadership is working towards stabilizing the party and charting a positive course towards the 2023 elections and beyond.

He expressed the party’s vision to provide Nigeria with a credible platform built on honesty and sincerity to address national challenges.

The national women leader of SDP, Sa’adatu Abdullahi, highlighted the importance of engaging with stakeholders to address internal challenges within the party.

She acknowledged the media coverage of the party’s recent events and expressed gratitude for the attention.

She stressed the need for collaboration with stakeholders to resolve the party’s challenges and move forward.

“The stakeholders meeting was called to address the issues within the party and find lasting solutions. The leaders of SDP recognized the importance of involving the party members in decision-making and charting a successful path for the party’s future.

“Our efforts are aimed at fostering unity, addressing internal conflicts, and building a stronger foundation for the party. With collaboration we will overcome the challenges and emerge as a credible alternative for the upcoming election,” she said.
