Niger State governor, Mohammed Umar Bago has approved the immediate reopening of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU), Lapai.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Governor Bago had last month ordered the temporary closure of the institution due to security concerns and resultant loss of lives within the University community.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman who conveyed the directive of the Governor on Friday, said the decision followed a comprehensive review of security measures and infrastructure improvements in the institution.
Usman disclosed that Governor Bago was satisfied with the security architecture and infrastructural development put in place to safeguard students, staff and the University community.
“Consequently, he has directed that academic activities resume on Monday, 4th August, 2025,” the SSG announced.
He stated that while approving the reopening of the University, the Governor also emphasised that the safety and welfare of students as well as the staff remain the top priorities for his administration.
