Flood Disaster: Yobe Govt Receives 10, 000 Bags Of Rice, Other Donations From NEDC

The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food items including 10, 000 bags of rice for distribution to victims of flood disaster across Yobe State.
Governor Mai Mala Buni while receiving the items in Damaturu said the items did not only apt but came at the right time taking into consideration the level of destruction caused by the disaster at the 11 most affected local government areas.
Buni, represented by his deputy Hon Idi Barde Gubana said the flood disaster has apart from loss of lives equally destroyed many houses while several farmlands and livestock were also destroyed.
He said, “The Government and good people of Yobe State are appreciative of your visit to commiserate with us over a flood disaster that ravaged at least 11 local government areas in the state.
“We are also very happy with the support and palliative from your commission to cushion the effect of the disaster which has destroyed the essential means of livelihood including the reserved food at home as well as farmlands.
“The intervention came at the right time and insha Allah we will ensure judicious distribution to the affected communities immediately. We in Yobe have compiled the lists of the affected persons and communities and the government will hand it over to you for more interventions especially for medium and long term support,” he added.
He commended the staff and management of the NEDC under the leadership of Mohammed G. Alkali for working in harmony with the six states in the quest for making life more meaningful to the people.
The MD/CEO of the NEDC, Mohammed G. Alkali said the intervention was part of fulfillment made by the commission towards supporting the victims of the flood disaster with palliatives.
“We promised to provide to Yobe State and all the other states with the following food items and the share of Yobe State is as follows; 10, 000 bags of 25kg rice, 5, 000 pieces of blankets, 5, 000 pieces of mats, 3, 000 gallon of vegetable oil, 5, 000 pieces of wrappers and 3, 000 pieces of shadder brocades.
Successful National Population, Housing Census Key To Our Recovery Efforts – Buni.
The Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni said a successful 2023 National Population and Housing Census remained crucial to the implementation of all recovery processes outlined by his administration.
Buni stated this while flagging off a stakeholder summit on the 2023 Population and Housing census held at the government house Damaturu.
The governor stated that as a state, which suffered a series of destruction from the nefarious activities of Boko Haram insurgents, Yobe needs accurate statistics and data that will help in the execution of its post insurgency recovery plans.
