The lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Buba Umar has flagged off the distribution of 7 trucks of free fertilizer to farmers and the rollout of a vaccination campaign targeting over 85,000 livestock in his constituency.
Speaking on Sunday during the flag-off of the fertilizer distribution in Bauchi, Senator Buba said the initiative aligns with his policy focus on food production and empowering farmers in his constituency.
He added that supporting both crop and livestock farmers was part of his efforts to achieve food security, enhance livelihoods, and promote peaceful coexistence in Bauchi South.
The event was attended by leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stakeholders, and representatives of farmers’ organisations from across the constituency.
“This marks the third time in a row that we are distributing fertilizer to farmers. We thank Almighty Allah for granting us the opportunity to again provide our people with fertilizer in our efforts to support agricultural productivity,” he said.
He emphasised that the intervention was aimed at reducing the cost burden of fertilizer and helping farmers improve productivity.
The lawmaker also urged the distribution committee to ensure transparency and equity in the sharing process.
In a related development on Saturday, Senator Umar flagged off a livestock vaccination campaign in Gwabiya, Bogoro local government area of the state, targeted at vaccinating 85,000 cattle, goats, and sheep across Bauchi South to improve animal health and prevent disease outbreaks.
The event was attended by notable personalities including Hon. Aminu Tukur, Hon. Buli, Hon. Yusuf, community leaders, and hundreds of pastoralists.
Senator Buba recalled the success of a similar vaccination campaign held earlier in Buzaye, Bauchi local government area where 40,000 animals received treatment.
“We are expanding our reach. I am pleased to announce that 85,000 animals will benefit from this current campaign. Our veterinary teams will move across the region to make sure no community is left out,” he stated.
The leaders of the Fulani herders’ community commended Senator Umar’s efforts, presenting him with traditional gifts in appreciation of the gestures.
