The Nigeria Youth Organisation (NYO), in partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has strengthened collaboration efforts in the fight against drug abuse and human trafficking among youths.

During a delegation led by the NYO President and his team to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) headquarters in Abuja over the weekend.

Director of Drug Demand Reduction, Dr Ngozi Madumere, DCGN, represented by the executive chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to partnering with stakeholders to curb drug-related social vices across the country.

In his remarks, NYO’s national executive president, Comrade Okorie C. Okorie, described the visit as a significant step towards marking the beginning of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Youth Week, which will kick off on August 6.

Okorie highlighted the organisation’s long-standing dedication to promoting peace, unity, and youth development since its inception in December 1980.

He noted that NYO, operating under the presidency’s supervision through the Ministry of Youth Development, remains a catalyst for national unity and inter-group dialogue.

Comrade Okorie also presented the 2025 Emblem of the Nigeria Youth Organisation to the NDLEA, inscribed with the message “Adequate Security: A Collective Responsibility for All Nigerian Youths,” pledging to support the Renewed Hope Nigeria agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He, however, commended the NDLEA for its relentless efforts in combating drug trafficking and supporting youth-focused initiatives.

On his part, the director of Drug Demand Reduction, Dr Ngozi Madumere, acknowledged the link between rising drug abuse and the country’s worsening insecurity, including banditry and kidnapping.

She noted that despite resource constraints, the Agency remains committed to providing technical support to the NYO’s upcoming International Youth Week and related programmes.

“We may not be able to offer financial support, as we are not a funding agency, but we will provide technical assistance, send resource persons, deliver awareness materials, and represent the NDLEA at your events,” she noted.

She further noted that timely details about the upcoming Youth Week, including venue and schedule, would enable the agency to participate actively.

The visit ended with a vote of thanks from the NYO National Secretary, Oluwabukunmi Awolola, who expressed deep appreciation to the NDLEA for its dedication to nation-building and commitment to collaborating with the youth to tackle drug abuse.
