In a remarkable display of intellect and mastery of the English language, 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu from Yobe State, has emerged as the World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

Representing Nigeria through the Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), Yobe State, Nafisa triumphed over 69 countries and topped a staggering 20,000 participants worldwide, a feat that places her firmly in the global spotlight and marks a historic moment for Nigeria in international academic competitions.

The TeenEagle competition, renowned for its rigorous assessment of English language proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills, saw students from English-speaking and non-English-speaking countries alike compete at the highest level.

This remarkable achievement was contained in a statement issued by the head of the Aminu family, Hassan Salifu, who described the victory as a product of dedication, discipline, and the enabling support of the state government.

According to him, “Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation.”

He said, Nafisa’s outstanding performance outshined even participants from native English-speaking nations, an accomplishment that speaks volumes about her dedication, intelligence, and academic preparation.

Nafisa’s victory has sparked celebrations across Nigeria, especially in her home state of Yobe. Her family expressed heartfelt gratitude to Mai Mala Buni, whose strategic investment in education they say laid the foundation for their daughter’s success.

“Our daughter’s global achievement would not have been possible without Governor Buni’s extraordinary support for education in the state,” the Aminu family said. “His efforts have not only transformed our schools but have now brought global honour to Yobe, the northern region, and the entire nation.”

They also extended appreciation to the management and teachers of Nigerian Tulip International College, whose dedication to academic excellence, they believe, prepared Nafisa to compete and win on the global stage.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Nigerians across the country are now calling for Nafisa to be officially recognised with State and National Honours, as many believe her victory is not only a personal triumph but a symbol of Nigeria’s untapped academic potential.

“She has made our country proud, defeating nations where English is the first language. Her victory sends a strong message: Nigerian students can compete and win globally when given the right support, “another proud relative noted.
