In a momentous recognition of academic excellence and global achievement, Yobe State Governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni has approved a grand ceremony to honour 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, who emerged World Best in English Language Skills at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

Nafisa, a student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC), represented Nigeria at the prestigious international competition, defeating over 20,000 participants from 69 countries, including native English-speaking nations.

The historic win has placed Nafisa and Nigeria in the global academic spotlight.

Governor Buni, in a statement signed by his Director General, Press and Media Affairs, Mamman Mohammed, described Nafisa’s triumph as “a great honour to the state and the entire nation.”

He further described her victory as a compelling testament to Yobe’s ongoing investment in education.

The governor noted that Nafisa is a beneficiary of his administration’s scholarship programme, which currently covers 890 students at NTIC and over 40,000 students in universities and tertiary institutions both in Nigeria and abroad.

He said, “This is a great feat that makes us proud and justifies the government’s massive investment in education. We are committed to ensuring that every child in Yobe has access to quality education, and Nafisa’s success shows what is possible when we invest in our youth.”

Governor Buni announced that a state-wide grand reception will be held in Nafisa’s honour in recognition of her remarkable global achievement.

He also renewed his administration’s pledge to keep rebuilding, equipping, and staffing schools across the state to overcome the setbacks caused by years of insurgency.

“We are so glad that the state’s investment in rebuilding education reconstructing schools destroyed by insurgency, equipping classrooms, and hiring qualified teachers has begun to yield results.

“We’ve rebuilt many schools, provided learning materials, laboratory equipment, and hired qualified teachers. We appeal to parents and guardians to work with us so that every child has the chance to succeed like Nafisa,” he added.

Nafisa’s historic win was first reported by LEADERSHIP, detailing her rise to the top at one of the most competitive academic contests in the world.

The TeenEagle Global Finals tests students on English language proficiency, critical thinking, and communication skills.

Recall that her family, had in a public statement signed by Mallam Hassan Salifu attributed her success to hard work, discipline, and strong support from the Yobe State Government.

“Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without Governor Buni’s visionary investment in education,” said Hassan Salifu, head of the Aminu family.

They also thanked the teachers and management of NTIC for providing the academic environment that prepared Nafisa for international competition
