Ebonyi State governor, Francis Nwifuru has lifted the suspension on 81 out of 87 government officials earlier sanctioned for failing to attend what was described as an “important government function.”
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Monday Uzor, who said the affected officials have been directed to “resume official duties immediately.”
“The governor directed the commissioners, senior special assistants, special assistants and permanent secretaries who were suspended on the 28th of July, 2025 to resume official duties immediately,” Uzor said in the statement.
Recall that Governor Nwifuru has on July 28, 2025, suspended 87 top government officials comprising 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries for failing to attend an undisclosed government function.
According to an earlier statement from the Governor’s office, the suspension was to last for one month without pay.
While the suspension was lifted for 81 of the officials, Tuesday’s statement was silent on the status of the remaining six individuals.
It remained unclear whether they will face further disciplinary action or be reinstated at a later date.
There has not been official explanation for the exclusion of the six officials from the Governor’s pardon.
