Three migrants, including one Nigerien national, were found dead from thirst in the Sahara Desert along the dangerous Agadez–Dirkou route in northern Niger.

This was disclosed in a post shared on the verified X (formerly Twitter) handle of Refugees in Libya accompanied by a video showing the decomposing bodies of the deceased in the sand.

The bodies were discovered on Monday between 4p.m. and 11p.m., about 23 kilometers from the Achigour well, a known landmark on the migration trail.

Only one of the deceased was carrying a Nigerien identity card, while the other two had no identification documents, leaving their nationalities and backgrounds unconfirmed.

Eyewitnesses who found the corpses reported that all three individuals were buried respectfully in accordance with Muslim funeral rites.

Refugees in Libya called on the public to assist in identifying the victims or reporting any missing persons who may have passed through that region.

The Agadez–Dirkou corridor is a key route for West African migrants heading toward Libya, often through harsh desert conditions and without adequate water, supplies, or support.
