Sokoto State government has expressed readiness to collaborate with the National Postgraduate Medical College to address health challenges in the state.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated this at the opening of the Annual Scientific Conference and All Fellows Congress held at the International Conference Centre, Kasarawa area, Sokoto.

Aliyu said such partnerships should involve training and scientific research to help improve the health sector in the state.

He appealed to the leadership of the \ college to grant approval for the tertiary hospitals in the state to commence residency training programmes to strengthen efficient healthcare service delivery in the state.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, enumerated various efforts made by the government to make healthcare accessible and affordable to the people.

In his remarks, the coordinating minister of Health, Professor Muhammed Ali Pate, expressed appreciation for the state government’s effort to improve manpower in the health sector.

The minister, who was represented by the chief medical director of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Professor Anas Sabir, stressed the need for the conference to produce recommendations on how to improve manpower and the use of technology in the health sector.

In his address, the royal father of the day, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubukar, expressed dismay that despite the number of eminent medical practitioners in the country, Nigerians in their thousands are going for medical treatment abroad.

The Sultan therefore enjoined the participants to put their heads together towards addressing this trend.
