Oyo Gov’t Begins Enforcement Against Street Trading, Open Grazing

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, OYRLEA has commenced enforcement of street trading, anti-open rearing/grazing regulations and other related laws in the state, impounding cows, rams and other valuables.

The enforcement team, led by the chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderemi (rtd.) alongside the chairman of Environmental Task Force, DCP Francis Ojomo (rtd), carried out the exercise on Tuesday in Ibadan.

The duo emphasised the State government’s swift response to tackle every related offences by prosecuting violators.

They added that the enforcement highlights crackdown on street traders at Bodija Market in Ibadan where mini and mobile stalls were evacuated.

The OYRLEA chairman recalled that extensive sensitisation were made against street trading with the flag-off at Bodija Market earlier in January.

She added that OYRLEA was taking the enforcement campaign to ensure compliance.

In another development, following petitions received from residents of Unique Estate, Oluyole in Ibadan, three rams, and a cow were impounded by the enforcement team.

He reiterated the agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws, as well as anti-open rearing and grazing regulations and other related laws in the State.

Aderemi gave the owner a seven-day ultimatum to claim the livestock to avoid forfeiture or fine option.

Also, residents of Abidiodan, in Lagelu local government area of Ibadan, have been issued a 7-day ultimatum to evacuate shanties on road setbacks, which have become hideouts for criminals and illegal activities.

The enforcement team was joined by Operation Burst, Environmental Task Force, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Amotekun Corps, among others.
