Following the recent promotion exercise conducted by the Police Service Commission (PSC) on the recommendation of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Zone 10 Headquarters, Sokoto, has decorated its newly promoted senior officers.

Nine inspectors were elevated to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II), 33 Sergeants promoted to the rank of Inspector, and seven Corporals promoted to the rank of Sergeant.

The decoration ceremonies held in two phases were presided over by the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 10 Headquarters Sokoto, AIG Gyogon Augustine Grimah, alongside members of his management team, with family, friends, and well-wishers in attendance.

In his address, AIG Gyogon Augustine Grimah congratulated the promoted officers and urged them to live above board, stressing that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

On behalf of the promoted officers, Supol Abdullahi Shuaibu of the Zonal Intelligence Department expressed gratitude to the Almighty, the PSC, the IGP, and the AIG for finding them worthy of elevation. He pledged the newly promoted officers’ readiness to take on higher responsibilities.

In a related development, the Sokoto State Police Command has disbursed ₦14.1 million to families of officers who died or sustained injuries in the line of duty.

The cheques, totalling ₦14,120,491.70, were presented under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme, Group Life Assurance, and Group Personal Accident Scheme, during a brief but emotional ceremony at the Command Headquarters in Sokoto.

Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Musa, who supervised the disbursement on behalf of IG Kayode Egbetokun, was represented by the deputy commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, DCP Umar Abubakar Sokoto.

Delivering the CP’s remarks, DCP Abubakar expressed condolences to the bereaved families and those affected by injury in active service.

He said, “This is not just a cheque. it is a message of remembrance and appreciation. We hope this support will serve as a foundation for something meaningful, a legacy that honours the memory of our fallen heroes,” he said.

The commissioner further advised beneficiaries to invest the funds wisely to secure the long-term well-being of their families, especially in the face of rising economic uncertainty.

One of the beneficiaries, Attahiru Sulaiman, who spoke on behalf of the recipients, expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General and the police leadership for the timely support.

He assured that the funds would be used judiciously to build a better future for the families left behind.
