The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has threatened to wield the big stick against party leaders who endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s second term ambition.

The former ruling party said they would be sanctioned if they do not desist from engaging in anti-party activities.

The party, in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Hon. Debo Ologungaba yesterday, said it reached the resolution after  reviewing the activities of certain members of the party, particularly those endorsing President Bola Tinubu for re-election in 2027.

Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke and the Osun State chapter of the PDP recently endorsed Tinubu for a second term, noting that he is their son.

The FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, had repeatedly and publicly declared his resolve to lead Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

Other party leaders that have pledged to work for Tinubu’s 2027 ambition are former Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom and his former Ekiti State counterpart, Ayo Fayose.

But the PDP national spokesman, Ologungaba, in a statement said, “Of serious concern is the persistent public media outbursts against our party by some prominent members whose actions and utterances including their public declaration of support and willingness to work for the victory of the APC in the 2027 presidential election in violation of the provision of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) constitute a serious threat to the stability and sustenance of our party.

“Specifically, Section 10 (6) of the PDP Constitution provides that “NO MEMBER of the Party SHALL align with other Parties or groups to undermine the Party or any of its elected government.”

The party spokesman added that such anti-party activities had continued to impact negatively on the PDP, leading to division, disaffection and heavy hemorrhaging of members with the capacity to diminish the party’s electoral fortune if not immediately checked.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday, Olafeso said , “We in PDP are choosing to learn from the mistakes of the past and neither will anybody be bigger than the party.”

Olafeso said PDP members must be PDP in everything that has to do with the development and the survival of the party should be a priority to you and we are in the process of ensuring that we have our own position field for the presidency due to all party positions from the topmost to the lowest.
