The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a further extension of the grace period for enforcing the tinted glass permit requirement, pushing the new commencement date to October 2, 2025.

The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday.

According to the statement, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, approved the extension following “a significant surge in applications via the official portal,” which the Force said reflects “heightened public compliance with the directive.”

The Police explained that the additional time will allow for “meticulous scrutiny of applications to ensure that the permit is issued only to eligible and qualified individuals, in line with national security considerations.”

The Force added that the move will also provide “room for the continued fine-tuning of verification processes, both digital and physical, to maintain the integrity of the permit system and prevent abuse.”

The police stressed that possap.gov.ng remains the only authorised platform for applying for the permit and urged Nigerians to “disregard any unofficial channels.”

Citizens were further encouraged to “report all forms of extortion, hidden charges, or unauthorised processing” to the police via the dedicated hotline 08147818871.

While appreciating the cooperation of Nigerians so far, the statement reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to “balancing public convenience with robust security measures for the safety of all.”
