Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has threatened to sanction institutions that fail to submit their matriculation lists.
The decision was reached against the backdrop of some institutions’ perpetual failure to forward their matriculation list to the board, with some of the institutions refusing to make any submission in the last three academic sessions. The board regards the situation as absurd and unacceptable.
The registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, at a meeting with Admissions Desk Officers (ADO), directed that institutions, which have failed to submit their matriculation list for the 2022 and 2023 admissions, should not have their admissions approved for the 2024 and 2025 admission exercises.
The registrar stated that the concession for 2024 admissions was owing to the fact that some institutions are still conducting 2024 admissions.
Hence, these institutions would be expected to do the needful when they are done with their work. In the same vein, the Registrar stated the Board’s resolve to make erring institutions scapegoats, as appropriate sanctions would be meted out to them in due course.
As a prelude to what lies in store for defaulting institutions, the registrar disclosed that such institutions would be invited to a meeting, while affiliate institutions, along with their parent institutions, are to be invited, where appropriate penalties would be spelt out.
The Board, in its weekly bulletin released yesterday, also directed that an advert be placed in major dailies to inform all institutions that admission for erring institutions would not be approved.
To this end, the admission desk officers were advised to ensure that those institutions complied with the directive to submit matriculation lists.
It should be recalled that JAMB automated the National Matriculation List (NML) as a precondition for institutions to compete for the National Tertiary Admission Performance-Merit Award (NATAP-M Award) as part of measures to detect and prevent the use of counterfeit and forged certificates by fraudulent individuals.
The NML is an official document that confirms a candidate’s admission into any Nigerian tertiary institution of his choice as conducted through the Board’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
