Benue State governor, Hyacinth Alia, has introduced Coach Bala Abubakar as the new technical adviser for Lobi Stars Football Club (FC) of Makurdi.
The ceremony was conducted by the acting commissioner for Youths, Sports and Creativity, who represented Governor Alia at the event.
Abubakar, who has previously managed Lobi Stars, said he is returning to a familiar ground and aims to make history by guiding the club back to the Premier League, with the support of both the players and the club’s management.
Originally from Niger State, Abubakar, who had a brief spell with Lobi Stars FC before, stated that he intends to make a positive impact during his second tenure.
“I am delighted to be unveiled today as the coach; this is my second coming, and it presents a different challenge altogether,” Abubakar remarked. “Although this task is demanding, with the backing of the players and management, we will restore the club to the Premier League.”
Earlier, the Acting Commissioner, who also serves as the Chairman of Lobi Stars FC, Dr Philip Nongo, expressed his hope that the club would begin the Nigeria National League (NNL) season by playing its matches at home.
He explained that the previous season, which culminated in the relegation of Lobi Stars, was one of the club’s most challenging, citing instances of deliberate sabotage from those opposed to progress.
Nongo highlighted that a significant setback was the team’s necessity to play home matches elsewhere, suggesting that if they had played at home, the outcomes would likely have been more favourable.
However, he affirmed that the management takes full responsibility for all that occurred during the last season, stating they have learned from past mistakes and intend to rectify them in future matches.
Nongo emphasised that no amount of media blackmail or ethnic bias will deter the club, insisting they remain committed to maintaining focus at all times.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Alia for his support, he reassured that the team is preparing to return stronger and better organised for the upcoming season.
