The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected the outcome of the Ghari/Tsanyawa State Assembly re-run election conducted on Saturday, August 16, 2025 in Kano State.

In rejecting the election’s results, the NNPP accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of manipulation and collusion with agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Kano on Sunday, Chairman of the NNPP in the state, Comrade Hashimu Dungurawa, alleged that INEC “denied electorate their rights” by declaring the candidate of the APC winner of the poll.

Dungurawa explained that the re-run was ordered by the Court of Appeal in 10 polling units, but INEC allegedly cancelled results from those units and reverted to earlier results already faulted by the court.

“In Ghari local government, the re-run was conducted peacefully at the 10 polling units, but through manipulation by some unpatriotic politicians who connived with INEC officials, the APC candidate was declared winner,” he alleged.

The party also faulted INEC for announcing the result at its state headquarters in Kano rather than the constituency collation centre, saying the move created room for manipulation.

It vowed to resist what it described as injustice, favouritism, and electoral fraud, insisting that presiding officers had already signed results that should have been upheld.

Meanwhile, the NNPP commended the conduct of the Shanono/Bagwai by-election, where its candidate was declared winner.

The party described the process as credible and praised security agencies for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere.

“We salute the courage of our people who stood with us and voted for the NNPP candidates in all the re-run and by-elections,” Dungurawa added.

The electoral body and the opposition party, APC have yet to respond to the NNPP’s allegations.

LEADERSHIP reports that the INEC Returning Officer for the Ghari/Tsanyawa rerun election, Professor Muhammad Waziri declared the APC’s candidate, Garba Ya’u Gwarmai, winner with 31,472 votes, defeating NNPP’s Yusuf Ali Maigado, who polled 27,931 votes.
