NEDC Gives Relief Items To Maiduguri Flood Victims

North East Development Commission (NEDC) has donated food and non-food items comprising 25kg bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, 10kg bags of sugar, cartons of indomie noodles, gallons of vegetable oil, mats and blankets to 3,200 households affected by flash flood two weeks ago in various communities in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Many residents were rendered homeless with eight buildings destroyed, and a graveyard in Zajeri area of Maiduguri submerged.

Speaking during the handing over of the relief items to the beneficiaries, the State Coordinator of the NEDC, Engr Mohammed Umar, said the gesture was necessitated by the recent flood in some of the communities in Bulunkutu seleke, Bulunkutu Abuja, Bulunkutu Ngomari ,Ajiri Cross, Pompomari bypass and Zajeri .

Engr Umar said when the incident was communicated to the management of the NEDC, the MD/ CEO, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali with his executive directors directed for need assessment of the victims, adding that after the assessment, the management approved food and non food items to the 3200 households affected by the flood.

” Our assessment gave us about 3200 households. And based on what the management has approved for the food and non-food items, each beneficiary would recieve a 25kg bag of rice, 10kg bag of sugar,  a carton of spaghetti, a carton of indomie noodles, a gallon of vegetable oil, mat and blanket,” said the State Coordinator NEDC.

He noted that similar gesture was carried out on victims of  flood in Chibok and Damboa local government areas, as well as the victims of the recent flood disaster in Adamawa State and Das local government area, in Bauchi State.

Expressing their gratitude to the NEDC, the trio of Mohammed Mohammed of Bulunkutu Kasuwa Sandari; Shettima Ali of Ngomari area and Aisha Nasiru of Zajeri ward, said the items recieved would go a long way in bringing succour to them recalling how the flood took over their homes and devastated them.
