As the 48-hour ultimatum issued by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade for the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi to reverse the Okanlomo of Yorubaland confered on popular Ibadan businessman, Prince Dotun Sanusi elapsed, the Oyo monarch may consider publishing the Supreme Court’s ruling he relied upon to make the demand.

According to Oba Owoade, the apex court ruling affirms the Alaafin’s exclusive right to confer chieftaincy titles with coverage across Yorubaland.

The Alaafin had accused the Ooni of exceeding his authority and breaching the apex court’s pronouncement on who could confer titles with the “Yorubaland” designation.

LEADERSHIP recalls that Bode Durojaye, the spokesman to Oba Owoade, on Monday demanded the Ooni to revoke the Okanlomo of Yorubaland title conferred on Sanusi within 48 hours, citing the apex court’s verdict.

Our correspondent learnt that as the ultimatum expired without express communication from the Palace of Ife, several meetings were held between Monday when the statement was issued and Wednesday in Oyo to determine the next plan that may be adopted by the Alaafin.

Waiting on the ‘consequences’ conveyed through Durojaye’s statement, insiders within the Oyo Palace disclosed that the content of the Supreme Court judgment might be published to reinforce the monarch’s position as the paramount ruler of Yorubaland.
