Managing director of Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) Plc, Engr Abdu Bello Mohammed has appealed to security agencies for help to stem the tide of energy theft and vandalization of electricity installations in its catchment states.

Mohammed made the appeal when he visited the commissioner of police, Plateau State Command, Bartholomew Onyeka, assistant commissioner of police in charge of Jos Metro, Bello Mohammed Tambuwa and the Plateau State commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Alexander Bissa Barunde in their offices respectively.

The MD who decried vandalism in the energy sector called for concerted efforts by the security agents to stamp out the menace by protecting electricity installations and networks in their areas of operations.

He said it was disheartening to see the way electricity facilities were being destroyed by unscrupulous elements in the society stressing that their nefarious activities were impeding the mandate of his organisation.

Mohammed also urged the police boss and his NSCDC counterpart to help in fighting the scourge of energy theft and staff assault. The DisCo boss who commended the police and the civil defence corps for their assistance in tackling the danger posed by vandals and energy crooks however disclosed that the company was losing humongous amounts of money to energy theft regularly.
