Why Management Shut Down Kwara College Of Education

More facts have emerged on why the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin was shut down by the management.

LEADERSHIP findings showed the crisis that led to the closure of the school last Tuesday emanated from the agitation of the lecturers for the payment of the one and a half months’ salary owed them by the management of the institution.

It was gathered that the institution which received monthly subventions from the state government could not meet its financial obligations as a result of dwindling internally generated revenue (IGR).

A large percentage of the students of the institution, it was learnt, were unable to pay their tuition fees, a situation which worsen the financial situation of the college.

LEADERSHIP recalls that last Tuesday the students went on rampage following the disruption of their examinations’ schedules by their lecturers who insisted on receiving their arrears of salary.

Confirming the development to LEADERSHIP during an interview in Ilorin on Sunday, the provost of the college, Dr Ahmed Jimoh Ayinla urged the staff and students of the institution to remain calm as the state governor, AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq is attending to the challenges facing the institution.
