BREAKING: Benue Assembly Speaker Aondona Dajoh Resigns

The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh, has officially resigned from his position.

In a letter addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly dated August 24, 2025, Dajoh announced his resignation, stating that it was done “in good faith and in the best interest of the state.”

“I write to resign my position as the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly effective today, 24th August, 2025,” the letter read.

The outgoing Speaker expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their support during his tenure, noting: “I want to appreciate my dear colleagues for the opportunity they gave me to be the first among equals.”

He further pledged to remain committed to his legislative duties as the representative of Gwer West State Constituency, assuring constituents of his continued service despite stepping down from the top leadership position of the House.

Following the submission of his resignation letter, Dajoh took to his Facebook page on Sunday afternoon, posting a copy of the letter with the caption: “Let there be peace.”

His resignation comes at a time of heightened political tensions within the Assembly, although no official reason has been stated for the move.

LEADERSHIP reports that the House had suspended four members a couple of days ago over alleged plot to impeach Speaker Dajoh. Also Governor Hyacinth Alia denied involvement in any plan to impeach the Speaker.
