The apex Northern socio-cultural organisation, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has said that zoning of political offices was purely affair of political parties, stressing that it was not covered by the Nigerian Constitution.
When contacted over the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s zoning of presidential candidate to South ahead of 2027 general elections,
ACF National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur Muhammad-Baba, stated this in reaction to the zoning of presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Southern part of the country.
Muhammad-Baba stayed this in a short reply to our correspondent, stressing however that the Forum does not comment on purely partisan political affairs.
ACF added that it was up to political parties to decide their winning strategies, ”The ACF does not position on purely partisan political affairs.
“At best, the ACF sees the recent development, about zoning and all, as a purely affair, as indeed such matters are not covered by the Constitution. This means it is up to specific parties to decide in their winning strategy.
“The same goes for individuals with regards to their decisions to offer themselves for the purposes of contesting for the presidency or any other offices.
“The ACF can, therefore, only wait to see campaign programmes, manifestos, and others,” the ACF said.
