The Youth Can Lead Fellowship, an initiative designed to equip young Nigerians with leadership and professional skills, held a leadership training and empowerment workshop at the weekend in Abuja.
At the event, Martha Eginiwin, the founder and convener of the fellowship, said the programme was aimed at amplifying youth voices and preparing them for national development. “For every young person we empower, there is an opportunity. Nation-building is a collaborative effort, and youths must act as change makers,” she said.

Eginiwin disclosed that over 100 young people applied for the workshop, with 50 selected to participate, while the Fellowship itself has trained more than 20 young leaders since its inception in 2024. She added that the initiative is supported by LEAP Africa and the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF).

A workshop facilitator, Gabriel Onyebuolise, stressed the importance of leadership training among youths, describing leadership as central to addressing Nigeria’s challenges. “Leadership is needed for career growth and nation-building. With the right skills, young people can design tailored solutions to the problems they face,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Agada Ene-Margreth, said the fellowship helped her secure employment after undergoing a six-week training in leadership and communication. “I realised that being a leader is not about titles but about inspiring change in your community,” she added.

The workshop also featured recognition awards for young Nigerians making outstanding contributions in their fields. Eginiwin urged the federal government to prioritise youth voices in policy-making and ensure access to opportunities, resources, and infrastructure that enable young people to thrive.
